Do you ever think to yourself, "That's perfect blog material. If only I had a blog."? I did, and blogged for a decade. After a further decade of silence, my blog is back!
Since I joined Vend a little over two years ago our team has grown from a few desks in a corner to four offices across the globe. Over that time the industry has exploded, bringing lots of competition (and a few clones) but also validating Vend's existence. I have loved working at Vend, but sadly my time to move on has arrived.
After more than three great years, this will be my last week with Pixel Fusion. I have accepted a position as a Senior Developer at Vend.
It's a well known fact that I'm rather shite at keeping this blog up to date. I often have had a lot to say but the content never felt like it was the right fit for what I wanted to achieve with this site. A while ago I came up with an idea to create multiple blogs, each dedicated to different topics that I want to talk about. Although it has actually been running for a few weeks now, I would like to formally announce the first of these new blogs, Arbitrary.
When I was twelve I picked up a book, not because I had any interest in reading it but because I was forced to read something (good old SSR). The book was Tomorrow, When the War Began and it instantly became the favourite book of my youth. I hit the library the same week a took out every book in the series that had been released so far. Since then, I have read every book in the Tomorrow series and it's spin off The Ellie Chronicles.
I dropped out of University twice. Computer Science didn't turn out to be as interesting as I had hoped and I was too young to appreciate tertiary education. If I had studied film I probably would have been more interested, but I couldn't see the career relevance. I have since regretted not having any form of qualification.
I realised the other day that I have quite a few Transformers t-shirts. This won't surprise many that know me because I'm a massive Transformers fan. For those who didn't know, yeah, I just got geekier. I love my Transformers t-shirts and I've decided to wear a different one to work each day this week. I know that I've got at least enough to cover this four day week, so I might even continue on after that.
I'm not the kind of person who makes new years resolutions. The new years resolution is the ultimate form of procrastination and let's you put absolutely anything off for an entire year.
Today (while procrastinating about things that I should've been doing), I gave myself a little kick in the butt about this website. As Brian's Mum would say, I've been a Very naught boy! I've barely managed one post every couple of months since I got the site back up and there's only been one comment in the last 18 months. It's got to the point where redevelopment of the site is like a running gag in a sitcom or late night show (see "I'm f**king Matt Damon") with me talking about various things that I want to do but never actually do. Now the time has come to finally fix things.
Due to the limitations of my UK Visa and the financial pressures caused by those limitations I have now returned home to New Zealand, alone. I have had to leave my darling Carmen behind to finish the last little bits of her university work. Carmen will then be going home to Valencia for a couple of months to spend time with her family before permanently relocating to Auckland. I'm man enough to admit it... I miss her terribly!
It has been an incredibly long 11 months (to the day) since I last posted on this blog. Sorry.
Yes it's one of those double posting days. I've told you what the current status of the website is but what about me. A lot has been happening in the real world too.
Recently I celebrated by 21st Birthday (now back home in New Zealand) and my beautiful girlfriend Carmen read to me a profile of people born on September 30th. I'm not usually one to believe in things like this but I thought that it was rather fitting in a lot of ways so I thought that I'd share it.
More photos are now online of my journey in North America. New photos include trips to Seattle and the very Grand Canyon. If any photos look stupid or dangerous they aren't really.
Yes it is I, Keri Henare with a long overdue (but brief) blog update. It's been almost three months since my last confession... I mean entry. I've been a very busy boy.
While I'm in America the easiest way to contact me is still by email. However I do have an American mobile number while I'm here too. +1 646 709 3629 Please TXT only because phone calls cost me money.
I am now in America, but before I left New Zealand I was without any real internet access for a month. So many things that I wanted to get finished before I left, didn't get done.
Personality tests, while there's often one or two things that you don't agree with, they seem to be pretty correct on the whole. I came across an entry on Joshuaink about this site Personal DNA which determines your personality type. It turns out that I'm a Benevolent Inventor, seems to have me all worked out.
Camp America is a summer camp work placement programme that is run the world over. This year I will be part of it. I'm currently awaiting selection by a summer camp which will be located somewhere in the United States. I hope to get a bit of travelling in after camp although I have to be back in New Zealand by late September for a string of birthdays (including my own 21st).
